Homeland Security and Illegal Aliens
October 30, 2001
In a past article I mentioned that Tom Ridge, DHS, should go off somewhere and confer with his team to produce a strategy for his newly created office. One of my suggestions for issues in need of attention was to secure our boarders.
Let me throw some numbers at you. In 1986 the census bureau estimated there to be 5 million illegal aliens in the US. Far to many, so we gave amnesty to 2.7 Million of them. Problem solved! <gong sound> Wrong!
In 2000 the number of illegals was estimated to be 8 million! So, within four years, the 2.7 M given amnesty have been replaced and an additional 3 million have been added to their ranks.
The number of legal and illegal aliens in the US has risen from 9.6 million in 1970 to 31.1 million in 2000! As Steven Camarota, of the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, D.C., notes in a press release: "No nation in history has ever attempted to incorporate and assimilate 31 million newcomers into its society."
Not only has no nation ever tried such a thing, we, the only nation on earth that has even a remote probably of successfully doing so, are going about it in entirely the wrong fashion. I'll give you a hint, you need look no further than the national motto, E Pluribus Unum, "out of many - one."
The dominant culture has all but insured failure. Instead of welcoming people into the culture of America, the institutions of education, entertainment and the media have segregated these newcomers into little enclaves. Diversity and Political Correctness have not allowed the melting pot to function. What we have today is more like a stew... pun intended.
Rather than embracing the American experience these newcomers have developed into little societies that retain their own culture. Whereas in the past immigrants worked at "fitting in" to society, adding the good of their culture and discarding the bad, they now sit in their little enclaves seeking a "voice" and wondering what happened to the American Dream.
The other problem with such a mass influx, legal and illegal, is that the INS has not a clue as to who is who or where these folks might be. People are given student visa's and never attend a class. Vacation visa's are routinely overstayed with no consequence. People from countries that harbor terrorists gain visa's essentially on demand. Saudi Arabia was home to 15 of the 19 scum that attacked us on 911. Hell, under current guidelines Usama bin Laden could probably get a visa and no one would notice. (Welcome to America Mr. bin Laden, is your trip for business or pleasure?)
What's your point John, you say? Well with 8 million illegals in our country and say one-tenth of one per cent are terrorists or terrorist sympathizers; we have 8,000 folks here that didn't come just to see Disney World. The FBI has, it was announced yesterday, detained 1,017 people since 911. As far as I know none have been charged and the only "terrorist" in jail is the Algerian they caught before 911. You remember him right, the guy that went to a flight school and wanted to learn to fly, but didn't want to learn to takeoff or land.
While everyone in the country is running around, afraid to open their light bill, thousands of bad guys are out there plotting their next attack. And the people that aren't out buying gas masks are carping that the war is not going well and second guessing the administration and the military. At three weeks into the military campaign, I think it just a touch early to declare defeat.
Here again I put the media right at the top of the list of those responsible for a disinformation campaign. Instead of highlighting the very real problem of the enemy within the gates or the problem of $1.4 Billion that is not getting to the intended recipients, they are asking any ex-Fed or retired General that will sit still for 90 seconds if they think we are loosing the war in Afghanistan.
As I sit here typing this, Fox News is reporting that intelligence reports collected in the last 48 hours have nuclear material being smuggled from Argentina, through Bogotá, Columbia and may already be in the US. This is not material to make a nuclear device. It is material to be included in a conventional bomb to spray radioactive material when the bomb is detonated, what is called a "dirty" bomb.
My fellow Americans, these people are not playing games. They drew first blood and are now thirsting for more. We need to get our collective act together and start making some changes to our non-existent immigration policy and close our porous borders. Racial profiling be damned, deport the middle eastern types, now!
